Valerie Hickey is the product of a chaotic eight-child Canadian family. A lover of relationship dynamics that produce obsessive and tender plots, Val creates complex, root-worthy characters who camp in the wild, live in North Africa or meet lovers on country roads.  

Two of Valerie’s short stories have won honourable mention, and three have been published. Valerie attended the Iowa Writers’ Workshop, and completed Humber’s Creative Writing program and a Master’s in Creative and Critical Writing in the UK. In 2026, Valerie begins a PhD in Creative Writing in Dublin.
